West Ham have been dealt a massive setback in their chances of signing Barcelona forward.

With finances being so tight for almost every team in the Premier League, it’s extremely difficult for West Ham to complete the rebuild required to the full extent they would like. Their lack of a striker, their lack of quality centre-backs and their nonexistent depth are all areas they look to improve upon in the coming months. However, they may just be able to kill two birds with one stone.

By signing a striker who can play anywhere across the frontline, it would allow them to deal with any potential injuries on the flanks much more easily by putting the striker on the wing and then they would be able to bring in Antonio, who’s role this coming season should be nothing more than a squad player, to fill in up top.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the Hammers are keen on signing Barcelona’s Ferran Torres in order to fulfil that role. The Versatile forward may not have played much for Xavi’s side last season, but he certainly had a massive impact, managing 15 goal involvements across all competitions.

While the reported asking price of £30 million is most likely one West Ham would consider meeting, their biggest issue could lie in convincing the player to move to East London.

Despite the Catalan club being eager to sell Torres in order to help their dire financial situation, he is still desperate to stay at Barcelona. Even though he has hardly started for them, he still believes he can fight for his place in the first XI and make a positive impact over the coming campaign.

Although this doesn’t look promising for West Ham, we’ve seen multiple times how well Tim Steidten is able to sell the project to players – who’s to say he can’t do it with the Spaniard?
