West Ham this week release our new 2024/25 home kit, however its always worth looking back at the history of our prestigious and famous kit over the years.

The club has featured the famous claret and blue since 1903. Before then, they were known for the old dark blue kit. From the retro claret and blue designs to the modern interpretations, the club’s kit evokes memories and emotions from fans worldwide.

There’s no debate that outfits sometimes influence team performances. This  applies not just to football, but also other sports and industries. We can use eSports, for instance, players like to use rare and cool looking in-game skins on their weapons which can be purchased from the best CS2 case opening sites. These skins won’t affect how accurate their in-game weapons are, but it can help players perform better mentally.

Similarly, The Hammers have worn numerous iconic kits, accompanying many successful campaigns. In this post, we’ll rank the best West Ham kits of all time, considering design, historical significance, and fan favourites.

5. Home – 1999/2000

The Hammers had a very successful season dawning this kit. Having finished in 9th place on the Premier League table for that season, they lifted the second European trophy in the club’s history that year: The UEFA Intertoto Cup. This saw them progress to the UEFA Cup. The kit featured the traditional claret and blue design, carrying the aura of the Hammers.

Notably, The club’s crest was prominently displayed on the left chest, while the Dr. Martens sponsorship logo was shown across the front. Together with white shorts and claret socks, the kit displayed the club’s iconic colours. And till this day, fans are seen wearing this iconic retro to cheer their team during games at the London Stadium.

4. Away 2020/2021

In 2020, this kit was released with a striking design with a different feel. The outfit saw innovation as the claret came in two stripes across the chest region, while the cuffs and collars were a muted black. The shirt showcased a sky blue colour and white detailing.

In a unique twist, the traditional claret colour appeared as a diagonal stripe across the chest region, flanking the sponsor, Betway. Paired with sky-blue shorts and socks, this stunning kit was unarguably a fan favourite. This unique outfit played a part in the Hammers’ rising back to the top and finishing in sixth place — only a point behind Leicester City.

3. Home – 1965/1966

This incredible retro kit is known as the Bobby Moore classic. The Hammers striker Bobby Moore had a perfect season that year while securing a spot for himself in the England World Cup-winning team of 1966. Also, this kit is celebrated for its association with West Ham’s historic FA Cup victory in 1965.

The kit samples a claret shirt with light blue sleeves depicting the club’s traditional colours. The shirt is paired with white shorts and claret socks with light blue trim. This is indeed one of the most iconic West Ham football shirts, with fans still purchasing and wearing it 59+ years after its first release.

2. Away – 2022/2023

Here’s another impressive away kit that’s simple but stunning—a predominantly black kit with striking blue and claret sparks on the shirt’s cuffs. The design was all shades of modernity while maintaining the club’s traditional colours. The shirt has a geometric pattern, sampling a dynamic and eye-catching look.

You can’t skip catching the club crest and sponsors’ logo, boldly displayed in white colours on the chest region. The Hammers wore this kit to their Europa Conference League triumph. To crown their efforts, David Moyes’ side held off Italian opponents Fiorentina 2-1 to win the UEFA Europa Conference League.

1. Home -1986/1987

This season is regarded as the club’s most remarkable ever because of the big names that dawned this retro classic. The Hammers finished the campaign in an incredible 3rd place. A team consisting of Frank McAvennie, Tony Cottee, Alan Devonshire, and George Parris proved to be the black horse.

The kit features the iconic claret and blue colour scheme, with a claret body and light blue sleeves. In many ways, it reflected the club’s rich heritage. The shirt includes subtle pinstripes and a retro-styled V-neck collar, adding a touch of elegance. The design remains a favourite among fans, representing the enduring spirit and history of West Ham United.
