West Ham are said to be hopeful of signing their top Summer target very soon, according to reports.

Although the window’s not long been open, the saga between West Ham and Max Kilman has dragged on for a while now. The Hammers were extremely keen on signing the defender back in January, but nothing ever came of this due to the club’s ’limited budget’.

However, in order to give Julen Lopetegui all the tools to succeed, they are determined to secure the Wolves captain’s signature – especially considering how much the Spaniard rates him.

After having two bids rejected though, The Guardian claims that the East London side are confident that they will conclude the deal this week. So far, the two club’s have been quite far away in their evaluation, and they even offered a player to sweeten the deal.

The fact that they believe an agreement can be reached so soon would suggest that they’re either willing to pay what Wolves want (which is believed to be £40-45 million) or they think they can get Gary O’Neil’s side to lower their demands.

Obviously, Kilman and Lopetegui have an excellent relationship as he’s the one who made the centre-back Wolves’ skipper. After conceding a record breaking 74 Premier League goals last season, it’s pivotal that the club give the gaffer defenders he trusts and can rely on.

Despite the high price tag, our Irons will be undoubtedly stronger with the 27-year-old in the back line and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him named as captain either. Realistically, £40 million for a proven, Premier League captain is more than reasonable.
