West Ham United have inquired into the availability of Inter Miami midfielder Diego Gomez, according to a report from GiveMeSport.

The Hammers are looking to jump in front of Brighton & Hove Albion in the race for the signature of the young Paraguayan. The Seagulls have reportedly had an offer rejected, which fell significantly short of the Miami side’s £20m valuation.

Gomez is said to be very keen on a move to Brighton, which has been a proven place for young players to improve over the past couple of years. Fellow Paraguayan Julio Enciso thrived at the Amex during his first full season, contributing to 11 goals in just 30 appearances as a teenager. Gomez would be hoping for similar success on the South Coast.

Enciso suffered a meniscus tear at the start of 23/24 which ruled him out for pretty much the entirety of the campaign. However, still just twenty, he looks set for another impressive campaign under new boss Fabian Hürzeler.

However, despite his interest in joining Brighton, West Ham have more spending power and with the potential ban of Lucas Paqueta, the Hammers need to bolster their midfield options.

While he may not have the ability to completely control a game like Lucas Paqueta can when he’s at his best, these stats show he has the same all-round midfield ability as the Brazilian. All be it the stats are in the MLS rather than the Premier League, but signings from the MLS have proven their worth in Europe in recent years.

After missing out on Aleix Garcia to Bayer Leverkusen, Diego Gomez could be a brilliant and younger alternative. Gomez has started the MLS season on fire playing alongside Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, and co. He has provided two goals and two assists in just six starts.

The midfielder has been out since the end of April with an ankle injury, but he will be fit enough to join pre-season if he is to make a move to England this summer as he has recently returned to light training.
