West Ham are set to “make a move” for exciting European centre-back as Kilman deal hits a roadblock.

Despite knowing Wolverhampton Wanderers want £45 million for Max Kilman this whole time, West Ham have still pursued a deal for him even though they don’t seem to be willing to match their demands. Reports from multiple outlets have suggested that the deal is currently on hold and that West Ham are looking at other targets.

While the likes of Jacob Greaves and Riccardo Calafiori seem to remain potential suitors, a new centre-back is on the Hammers’ radar, and it’s one that has got fans excited.

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that West Ham are looking to pursue a deal for Lyon’s Jake O’Brien. “West Ham make move for OL centre back Jack O’Brien, one more name on the shortlist,” he stated on X. “Max Kilman remains strong target but still not easy with Wolves as they ask around £45m. O’Brien, added to West Ham list.”

The Irish international has been pivotal to Lyon’s turn around from fighting relegation to finishing in a European place. He featured in 27 Ligue 1 games and managed to score 4 goals and assist a further 2. Standing at a staggering 6ft4 he’s dominant in the air and got great defensive abilities.

Now 23-years-old, O’Brien was once a midfielder and that can clearly be seen from just how sensational his passing is. He’s not had the easiest rise to the top, having to battle undiagnosed type 1 diabetes for a while, but he’s now looking like one of Ireland’s biggest prospects.

He’s proven that he’s able to perform at the highest level of French football and lead by example in a struggling team with a demanding fanbase -he would be an excellent addition to the squad.

Considering that Lyon are looking likely to sign Said Benrahma now that their transfer embargo has been lifted, it does open the door for a potential swap deal to be arranged which could work massively in both club’s favour.
