West Ham have learnt the bargain price tag of a defensive target, and it could mean he’s signed no matter what happens with Kilman.

It can not be understated how important it is that West Ham get the recruitment spot on this window. Their budget is somewhat limited but they need a large amount of players which means they’ll have to make some shrewd signings in order to help Julen Lopetegui succeed.

While Wolves’ demands for Max Kilman, Lopetegui’s top target, are extremely high, with them remaining firm in their £40-45 million evaluation, there are other targets which could be available for much cheaper.

News broke yesterday that the Hammers are keen on signing Lyon’s Jake O’Brien. The Irish international has been absolutely vital in them turning around their season and, against all odds, securing European football.

With the French side looking like they will sign Said Benrahma, many predicted that there could be some sort of swap deal struck whereby the Irons give them the player as well as some cash. Surprisingly though, that may not be necessary.

The Daily Mail reports that Lyon want £15 million for the 23-year-old which is the same amount they’re meant to be buying the Algerian for. If it ends up being a straight swap, it would be some of the best business West Ham have ever done.
