West Ham plan to accept a cash offer for Flynn Downes which could open the door for Kyle Walker-Peters to come the other way.

For some reason, the majority of West Ham fans seem happy to let Flynn Downes go. It’s bizarre considering he was one of the best players in the Championship last season, wouldn’t cost the Hammers a penny and is a boyhood fan of the club.

Arguably the only reason the Saints didn’t secure automatic promotion last season was due to their woeful form when the midfielder was out injured.

Understandably, Southampton are eager to sign him permanently as Russell Martin sees him as absolutely pivotal to his side’s survival chances. For a while, it wasn’t known whether or not they’d be able to get their man as new manager Julen Lopetegui hadn’t made up his mind about what role Downes would play.

However, according to Football Insider, the Spaniard has now made up his mind as West Ham will allow him to leave after telling him he’d be a squad player in the coming campaign. The report claims that the Hammers are prepared to accept a £15 million bid for the Brentwood boy.

What’s interesting is that Kyle Walker-Peters is being lined up as a replacement for Ben Johnson and is valued in that sort of region. While it’s not a dodgy deal like a lot of what’s going on in the Premier League to avoid PSR, there could be an agreement reached whereby it’s essentially a swap but done as two separate transactions.
