A La Liga winner could be on his way to West Ham on a free transfer in the coming weeks.

With it looking like Max Kilman is nearing a move to West Ham, the club have taken a massive step towards solving their biggest weakness. However, ideally they still need to sign another top quality centre-back, especially if they sell Nayef Aguerd or Kurt Zouma.

After the Kilman fee, they would’ve spent £75 million already this Summer on just two players meaning that the rest of their signings will have to be on the cheaper side until they sell someone. Thankfully, there are a number of bargain options out there with some quality free transfers available.

One such player would be Mario Hermoso who has been released by Atletico Madrid after his contract expired. The Spaniard has consistently been an important player for Diego Simone, playing in 41 games last season. According to HITC, both West Ham and Aston Villa are eager to sign the left-footed defender

While there obviously won’t be a transfer fee, he will still cost the Hammers a hefty amount as he is set to demand £80,000 per week. This would make him one of the higher earners at the club and at 29-years-old that could be a bit of a risk for someone who’s never played in the Premier League.

Hermoso is said to be an ambitious player and, as a result, doesn’t want to move to Saudi Arabia for a big payday. Although his wages are high, they can be justified by the fact he’s a free transfer. Ideally the club will be able to lower them but it’s a fair price to pay for someone of his quality and with his experience.
