The latest twist in the tale of West Ham’s pursuit for another Brazilian wonder-kid could spell the end of their interest

It’s very rare that West Ham are linked with a player and then go on to sign him quickly. There never seems to be a time where the Hammers are just willing to meet a club’s demands and it causes transfers to drag on and on.

At one point West Ham looked certain to sign Brazilian wonder-kid Wesley Gassova, but it didn’t materialise. Corinthians are said to have upped their demands for the 19-year-old, causing the Hammers to move on to other options and ultimately sign Luis Guilherme.

However, according to Claret and Hugh, the East London side still do hold interest in securing Gassova’s signature but a deal is becoming increasingly unlikely.

While Chelsea are said to have made an offer for the winger, it is believed that the youngster would prefer a move to France with OGC Nice now weighing up whether to make a bid. The player clearly believes Ligue 1 is going to be a better place for him to make his name in European football and, in fairness, he’s probably right. He’s still incredibly raw but playing in France would give him the best opportunity to develop into an individual ready to play at the highest level.

Even while playing in Brazil, he’s not far from getting a call up for his national team which says everything about the quality he possesses. He has the potential to be a world beater much like Guilherme – will our Irons go on to regret not signing both of Brazil’s biggest prospects?
