West Ham are still keen on signing Jean-Clair Todibo but questions are being raised about whether he represents good value for money.

Now that West Ham have all but signed Max Kilman, they can finally turn their attention onto other targets. You’d assume a striker would now be the priority considering that their only options in that position are Michail Antonio and Danny Ings. However, there are plenty of other areas that the squad needs to be improved upon and they could really do with signing another centre-back.

Last season the Hammers conceded 74 goals in the league – their worst defensive record ever in the Premier League. The idea of heading into the new campaign with one of the centre-backs who was part of such an awful defence still starting has understandably concerned some fans.

Thankfully, according to friend of The West Ham Way Dharmesh Sheth, the club are still looking at signing a top quality defender in Jean-Clair Todibo this Summer. “Jean-Clair Todibo from Nice is an ambitious target for West Ham United, but they did make a bid,” he told GIVEMESPORT. “We think it was around 30 million euros that was rejected out of hand.”

“Internal discussions are continuing at West Ham United about whether to go back in with an improved offer, or whether they will think it’s probably not going to be possible to get that player, but they are trying to sign him.”

Nice will be eager to keep hold of one of their most important players and you’d expect them to demand a similar fee to what the Hammers are set to pay for Kilman (around £40 million).

While it’s highly unlikely that the club will pursue him without one, or both, of Aguerd or Zouma departing, it does suggest that they are preparing for this to happen. If that is the case and our Irons do head into the new season with a partnership of Kilman and Todibo that would be an upgrade and a half. It would have cost a pretty penny, but it also would’ve sorted out the club’s biggest issue as well as being a real statement of intent. Signing him won’t be easy, but it would really be something if it does happen.
